risotto: milanese style.
Waaaaaay back in 2004, I was a junior in college going into my spring semester. I decided to study abroad in Florence, probably one of the best decisions I ever made. I met two of my favorite ladies, who are still two of my favorite ladies 8 years later. I had more adventures than I could list, and the best food of my life. It’s the time in my life that inspired me to want to learn more...

valentines day red velvet
Happy Valentine’s Day! I know, lots of people think Valentine’s Day is annoying and pointless. You should tell people you love them everyday, right? Of course. But why not celebrate a holiday that’s all about love and chocolate, just because?
Red velvet and nutella seemed like a perfect combo to make a Valentine’s Day cupcake. Enjoy, loves!

somewhat snowy saturday in brooklyn...
On Saturday, Dave an I decided to take a walk down to Brooklyn Bridge Park, because it was snowing! And yay for walks in the snow! The snowing lasted about 3 blocks into our walk, but we still had an awesome day.
We walked through the park, then into DUMBO, and whenever we go to DUMBO, Jacques Torres Chocolate shop is a must stop.
These were doughnut holes, filled with creme and rolled in...

victoria sponge cakes + beer jam
Yup, you read that right, beer jam! To explain…our friend Seth does a great web show called Beer Nation. He travels around the city, and the country, doing reviews on some great craft beer and spreads the word about it through his show. Last week, he came back from a trip and asked if I wanted some Victory Storm King Stout Fig Jam he picked up, maybe I could make something tasty with it. Of...

banana-pecan cupcakes...
…with caramel buttercream! (That’s my favorite part.)
It’s one of my friends birthday’s, an he’s the kinda guy that’s more into tastes like banana, pumpkin and gingerbread than my usual chocolate flavors. In his honor, I made these banana cupcakes with a caramel buttercream. I happened to have some caramel that I’d already made in my fridge, so that...
angelincovina answered your question: french almond macarons
I don’t have a mixer? What should I do then?
I’m not sure I’d recommend making any sort of meringue without a mixer, since the main part of the process is mixing egg whites…a lot. You can get a pretty cheap handheld mixer, I found one for $8 on google product search! If you do try mixing by hand, let me know how it...
ibakelikeachamp replied to your post: french almond macarons
Did you give these a special flavor or did you just want them to be blue because it’s pretty?
I made them blue because I’m making them for a friend’s son’s baptism, and she requested blue! No flavor besides the vanilla and almond.

french almond macarons
There were some cracks. There were some deflated, unfooted cookies. However, some of them turned out great! I’d say all in all, pretty successful for a first try! I’ll be going through this process again tonight, so I’ll let you all know if I improve at all! I used the recipe and the endless advice I found on BraveTart, which was amazing. I’ve posted her recipe below, but...

So, it’s Friday at 4:36 pm. I haven’t baked anything in what feels like forever because I’ve been SO busy. That will for sure change this weekend. I’m trying macaroons everyone. Real deal, french macaroons. Wish me luck! Until then, let’s play the ask me anything game! Cause, I don’t usually put much about myself on this blog. Let’s get a little...

holiday recap!
I hope you all had an amazing New Year’s! We were in sunny Florida for the weekend to visit family, and had a great time! It made me realize how much I truly dislike winter. January, February and March weather are going to be no fun! Anyhow, here are a couple highlights from our trip!
After flying into Orlando, and staying at my sister’s house over night, we drove down south to...

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ‘till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas,...
